Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility

  • Responsible for assisting the SACC Director/Site Director in the daily operations of the program
  • Assists in supervising staff, oversight of all program activities, communicating with families and ensuring all equipment and supplies are availiable


Supervisory Responsibility

Provides guidance, leadership, or training to other employees (no direct supervision)


Organizational Structure

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, supervises and implements the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA, the School Age & YUSA Day Camp curriculum
  • Effectively develops and carries out appropriate lesson plans that can be followed by staff
  • Develops a substitute folder containing lesson plans, daily schedule, special activities, and emergency information
  • Understands is able to incorporate Developmental Assets into the curriculum activities for children
  • Establishes structure and routines for children setting boundaries and behavior guidelines
  • Supervises other staff (Group Leaders) in the performance of their duties
  • Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary
  • Attends parent/child events as required
  • Effectively communicates with parents throughout the program year
  • Maintains an attractive and clean classroom at all times
  • Reports concerns, conflicts, or other problems directly to the supervisor
  • Ensures that all supplies and program needs are available at the time necessary for the participants
  • Other duties as required

Education, Certification, Skills, and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have high school diploma or GED
  • Must obtain CDA within 18 months of employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
  • Must meet the county/state licensing requirements
  • Must have the critical skill of being able to relate to parents, school staff and children and have a positive, creative attitude
  • Must be able to work as a team member
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents
  • Must understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to YMCA character development
  • Complete Training for:
    • Blood Borne Pathogens
    • Facility Orientation
    • Child Care Policy/Prevention of child abuse
    • Day Camp Policies
    • Staff/Parent Handbook
    • SACC Curriculum
    • Emergency Procedures


YMCA Leadership Certification

Position requires ongoing progress towards Leader Certification

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
